'As they fell from Heaven, the plants said,
'The living soul we pervade, that man will suffer no harm.'
– Rig Veda X.97

A glimpse into our process—how raw botanicals are thoughtfully transformed into potent remedies

Each form behaves differently in the body, and the physician chooses accordingly.
Classical processing goes well beyond grinding. Many formulations are repeatedly triturated with fresh herbal juices, decoctions, milk, buttermilk, or medicated ghee to build their action. Some require months of maturation in earthen pots or controlled storage; others need slow heating or roasting to develop full potency. It takes time — but it's what makes the medicine work the way the texts describe.
Asava and Arishta are prepared by natural fermentation: herbal decoctions combined with natural fermenting agents in sealed containers, developing roughly 2–3% alcohol on their own. Nothing is added — it forms naturally, acts as a preservative, and helps carry the herbal constituents into the tissues.
Our Medicines
Over the years we've identified Ayurvedic pharmacies across India known for excellence in specific classical formulations. When a commercial medicine meets our standard for quality and authenticity, we use it.
But personalised treatment often calls for formulations that simply aren't manufactured commercially. Commercial pharmacies make what sells in volume, and many classical formulations described in the texts are needed only in specific clinical situations — so they're never produced at scale.
From Himalayan Slopes to Our Medicine

Formulations that are not commercially available, are prepared for us by a small, dedicated team in a neighbouring town. Working closely with our physicians and following classical Ayurvedic methods, they carefully prepare these formulations whenever they are needed for our patients.
Herbs for these formulations are sourced directly from local farmers and traditional collectors across the Himalayan region — people with generations of knowledge of where each plant grows, when to harvest it, and how to dry it without losing potency. Many of these plants grow only in the higher Himalayas, where collecting them takes real skill and effort.
Timing matters as much as the plant itself. Ayurveda holds that a herb's potency depends on when it's gathered, so collection follows the season in which its therapeutic qualities peak — and drying follows the herb: some need shade, others gentle sun.
There Is No Single "Best Medicine"
Classical texts describe hundreds of formulations for any given chronic condition — dozens for joint disorders alone. None is universally superior. The right one depends on the patient in front of us: constitution, digestion, strength, stage of illness, and the imbalances involved. That's why we don't work from a "one product, one disease" list — every prescription follows a full consultation.
Medicine at HIMVEDA is never a standalone product. It's one part of a treatment plan that includes Panchakarma, diet, and lifestyle change, under continuous supervision. Whether it comes from a trusted external pharmacy or our own source, the standard doesn't change: the medicine fits the patient, not the other way round.
Ancient Wisdom. Authentic Care.
Every medicine is crafted using authentic Ayurvedic methods, carefully selected herbs, and time-tested formulations to support your journey towards complete wellness.
We cannot single out the best medicine. Each patient is unique in body constitution and disease pattern. All medicines are good and only a wise doctor knows which ones to choose. This is the reason why we don't advocate 'product' culture in Ayurveda where products for specific diseases are sold in the market.
